Commonly called Tampala, Summer Poinsettia, and Joseph’s Coat, Amaranthus Tricolor can be easily started from seeds, and the established Amaranthus features gorgeous bronzy-green colored leaves that turn to scarlet red leaves as the season progresses. When incorporated into the garden, Amaranthus adds bright foliage to the borders after spring blooms have faded. Amaranthus looks terrific growing in borders as a contrast with other foliage plants. Amaranthus seeds can be either sown early indoors or directly outdoors. Tampala is susceptible to frost, so the seeds have to be sown only after the last chance of frost has past and the soil has warmed. Amaranthus Tricolor is easy to grow, and this plant is a long lasting annual that grows taller and taller during the summer months tolerating heat and full sunlight.
