Description Asian pears are a relative newcomer in the UK and deserve to be better known.  Like apples they are sweet, crisp and juicy to eat raw but with a spicy, aromatic flavour.  The flesh holds it shape when cooked so works wonderfully in a tart.  They are also delicious when dried – a firm favourite in our house.  Asian pears ripen to a beautiful golden brown. Chojuro has a fabulously rich, honeyed, almost butterscotch flavour when tree-ripened. Ready to harvest from late September. Very productive. Partially self-fertile, this variety will bear fruit without another pollinating tree but will produce bigger yields if another variety of Asian pear nearby.
