Description Asian pears are a relative newcomer in the UK and deserve to be better known.  Like apples they are sweet, crisp and juicy to eat raw but with a spicy, aromatic flavour.  The flesh holds it shape when cooked so works wonderfully in a tart.  They are also delicious when dried – a firm favourite in our house. Asian pears ripen to a beautiful golden colour. Hosui is one of the best for flavour and has a fine-grained texture.  It can fruit very heavily so if you want larger fruit, thin while the pears are still small. Pick them slightly under-ripe and they will store for 3-4 months. Partially self fertile, Asian pears with bear fruit without another pollinating tree but will produce larger yields with a pollinator. Maiden – may arrive bareroot or potted depending on timing
